ST. PIUS X COLLEGE

St. Pius X college endeavors to offer its alumni a holistic formation. Very specially, it seeks to strike a balance between academics and pastoral environment.

The students are generally graduates or have had a fairly long working experience, and have also passed the English language test, which is the pre-requisite for being admitted to the seminary. The academic formation at St.Pius College is a grade one. Hence after the Orientation Year, which is a kind of a propaedeutic year, we have two years of Philosophy, followed by Regency and three years of Theology.

The two years of Philosophy include foundational courses in Scripture, Liturgy, Ethics, Social Doctrine of the Church, etc. The first year of Theology consist of basic courses in Scripture, Fundamental and Systematic Theology, Church History, Moral theology, Pastoral Theology and Counseling Skills. The Second and the Third years of theology are cyclic.

The Fourth Year of Theology includes preparation for the Ad Auds Examination (Confession Examination) and the de Universa Examination (Comprehensive Examination). The last part of the Diaconate programme is a combination of theory and practice, which enables the deacons to reflect theologically on their pastoral involvement in the light of the matter covered in the classroom.

There are constant efforts been made at Staff meetings, Academic Council meetings, House meetings, Moderator Group meetings to make the academic programme contemporary, relevant, holisitic , balanced and exciting. Apart from regular classes there are inclusions of Seminars, which deal with contemporary issues and are animated by professionals, which helps bridge the gap between classrooms and life.

St. Pius X College is now affiliated to St. Peters Pontifical Institute, Bangalore, and offers a B.Th degree to its students. The affiliation was approved on 2nd October 2006.
